Come & meet Phil Gallagher the star of CBeebies' Mister Maker

Come & meet Phil Gallagher the star of CBeebies' Mister Maker on Saturday 20th October from 10am until 11am

This half term young bookworms can meet the star of CBeebies’ Mister Maker at Hempstead Valley.

And Phil Gallagher, television presenter of the hit arts and crafts show, wants you to show him your favourite books.

To encourage this, the first 20 children to visit him on Saturday, October 20 will receive their very own Mister Maker book bag!

Phil will be available at the KM Charity Team’s stand to meet fans, pose for photographs, and sign autographs from 10am for an hour.

The meet and greet is part of the shopping centre’s 40th birthday celebrations, which boast a variety of activities and events – including from 12pm retro games and competitions in conjunction with kmfm. At 2pm the Mayor of Medway will be cutting our giant birthday cake!

Phil said: “Hempstead Valley (or “The Sava” as I still call it) is the first shopping centre I can remember visiting as a child and it holds so many happy memories for me. I am proud to help celebrate this big birthday and to support the inspiring work of the KM Charity Team.”

The presenter is a key supporter of Buster’s Book Club, a reading reward initiative for schools, which is run by children’s educational charity the KM Charity Team.

Schools signing up to the scheme by December 1 will go into a prize draw to win 400 books.

Simon Dolby, chief executive of the KM Charity Team, said: “Phil is such a hero to children and we are thrilled that he is spreading the message of the importance – and fun – of enjoying a good read.”

He added: “We can’t wait for the Hempstead Valley celebrations and would urge everyone to come along and join in.”

Su Button, the centre’s marketing manager, “We are delighted that Phil Gallagher star of CBeebies Mister Maker is going to be a key part of our 40th birthday celebrations. Phil has fond memories of Hempstead Valley and will be meeting young fans from 10am until 11am on Saturday 20th October, supporting the KM Charity Team with their reading reward initiative. We know many people will enjoy reminiscing about the past 40 years of Hempstead Valley and we will be holding an exhibition of archive photos in conjunction with Medway Council's Archive department. We then look to future; local schoolchildren will be showcasing their ideas of the future of shopping and Hempstead Valley!”
