From Monday 3rd April 2006, Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre will introduce a total no smoking policy within any areas of the centre. This will include The Valley Food Court and Morelli’s, which are currently the only places where smoking is allowed. In February this year Sainsbury’s restaurant banned smoking. In January 2004, a no-smoking policy was introduced in the malls.
Posters will shortly be displayed within the malls, including outside of Morelli’s and The Valley Food Court to inform visitors of the pending new policy. From 3rd April 2006, these posters will be changed to advise customers that smoking will no longer be permitted within restaurant areas.
Jean York, Deputy Centre Manager commented, ‘With the recent government legislation being introduced in the next 18 months and by listening to our customers we are taking the lead in instigating this new policy. If people are found to be smoking, centre security and housekeeping staff will adopt a diplomatic approach and advise visitors of the new policy. I am sure it will take a little time for people to adjust to the changes’
